There’s been a lot of back and forth over the upcoming Supergirl TV series, and word has now come from CBS that the show is a go. This will be yet another feather in the DC cap on TV as they have an abundance of shows on the air currently. Supergirl will star Melissa Benoist (from Glee) as Kara Zor-El. According to the official press release, “Since arriving on Earth from Krypton years ago, Kara’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.”

The first villain was announced a few weeks ago despite the fact that the show had not been officially picked up. Owain Yeoman (The Mentalist) will play Vartox, but the character is a departure from the comics. In regular DC lore, Vartox is friendly with Superman and has attempted to become more intimate with Supergirl (and who can blame him!). In the TV show, however, he will be an alien convict that has been hiding on Earth for twelve years that decides to come out and battle Supergirl when she emerges as a public hero.

We’ll have to wait until next Wednesday to find out where CBS will put Supergirl in their lineup. The problem is that the show will not be a good fit with most of their other programs, but it may wind up on Sunday nights.

As for other DC comic shows, Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, and iZombie have been renewed for another season.
