The Last Ship
Another post-apocalyptic tv show comes our way tonight as The Last Ship premieres on TNT. Based upon the novel by William Brinkley, this series follows the efforts of the USS Nathan James as it searches to find the cure to a pandemic that has killed 80% of the world’s population. So far, TNT has ordered a ten episode first season, with the possibility of further episodes if the show does well.

There are a few reasons why I’m going to check out The Last Ship. The first is that it has the incomparable Adam Baldwin in it. I’ve enjoyed pretty much everything (especially Firefly) that he has done. Second, my brother served 12 years in the US Navy and it’s nice to see them get the hero treatment for once. Lastly, Michael Bay is the main executive producer behind the show. While many ridicule his movies as low-brow trash, I find them vastly entertaining. Plus, The Last Ship promises a ton of action, which is a nice change of pace from normal tv fare. As for the plot, it’s been done before, but that’s no big deal. Whether it’s The Andromeda Strain or Babylon 5: Crusade, what really matters is what the show does with the initial premise. Just a few more hours to go until the first episode.
