DC Comics is celebrating 75 years of Batman with a host of festivities. The first is that the Batman 75th anniversary logo has been revealed, showing the famous bat logo with the number 75 embossed over it. Personally, I’m not taken with the logo at all and think it’s kind of lame. You would expect DC with their stable of talented artists to come up with something better.

There will be other events marking the Dark Knight’s anniversary such as Batman Day on July 23rd, some new Batman titles from DC, a prequel series called Gotham that will be on Fox, the new Batman Eternal series starting on April 9th, and the release of the 1966 Batman tv series starring Adam West for the first time.

It’s hard to believe that Batman started 75 years ago in Detective Comics #27, created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, and quickly grew into a cultural icon. Diane Nelson, president of DC Entertainment and president and chief content officer for Warner Bros. Interactive says, “Batman is one of the greatest characters ever created, in comics or elsewhere, and even after 75 years he continues to wildly fascinate fans. He is an integral part of pop culture and has successfully captured the imagination of the entire world.”

Here’s hoping for another 75 years for Batman.
